Net-Zero Transition Needs Investment and Good Regulation

March 1, 2023

The pursuit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to achieve net-zero targets will require investments by households, businesses and governments.

Canada’s public and private sectors are currently investing only a fraction of the required annual investment to reach net-zero by 2050, which the federal government estimates at $125 billion to $140 billion.

To facilitate the required private sector investment, governments need effective policies that meet the requirements for smart regulation. They must be clear, certain and consistent across provinces and different levels of government.
