On the Deficit Fight in Atlantic Canada

July 1, 2000

July 2000
Since the early 1990s, governments in Atlantic Canada have been attempting, with various degrees of success, to move forward on the deficit reduction agenda. Although progress has been made, the fiscal situation in the region still varies considerably by province. This Report Card looks at government revenue and expenditure growth to see how the Atlantic provinces have achieved their progress to date. It also examines the benefits of deficit elimination and the costs of not pursuing this course during the current period of economic health.
