Investment plays a critical role in the Atlantic provinces, expanding productive capacity, increasing productivity and contributing to demand. Investment spending in Atlantic Canada rose substantially between 1993 and 1999. However, with several major projects now complete, spending in 2001 is projected to be much lower than the 1999 peak. This Report Card examines recent trends in investment in the region, highlighting the impact of several mega projects. Overviews of investment spending in each Atlantic province are also provided.
