Atlantic Canada's Shrinking Labour Force

January 16, 2019

Atlantic Canada’s labour force has declined by 30,700 between 2012 and 2018 largely due to retiring baby boomers. The region’s unemployment rate has also declined to a record low leading to an increase in the number of employers struggling to find workers. Rising immigration is providing only partial relief. Employers and policy makers need to take a multi-faceted approach to address the declining labour force.
