Federal Budget 2017: Highlights for Atlantic Canada

The Liberal government's second budget projects that the federal deficit will peak at $28.5 billion in 2017/2018 before declining to $19 billion by 2021/2022.  While Budget 2017 identifies $1.3 billion in new measures in 2017/2018 and $5.4 billion in 2018/2019, this "new" money all comes from existing funds, departmental resources or projected revenues. Beyond clarification of these allocations and re-allocations, Budget 2017 is remarkably free of new tax or other fiscal measures, and contains no discussion of fiscal goals.
