A Profile of Atlantic Food Manufacturing

June 2, 2015

Food processing is the second largest manufacturing sector in Atlantic Canada, but a new report by the Atlantic Province Economic Council (APEC) finds consolidation over the past decade has significantly reduced the size of the work force, and cut the number of plants by almost 25%.

APEC’s Report Card on food manufacturing indicates food manufacturing sales were $7.3 billion last year, accounting for 22% of the region’s manufacturing sales and 36% of the region’s manufacturing exports (excluding refined petroleum).
