Outlook 2004: Getting Back on Track

November 1, 2003

Vol. 38, No. 3, Fall 2003
All regions and many sectors of the Canadian economy have battled this year against a number of largely unexpected shocks.  In spite of these shocks the regional and national economies have continued to grow, although at a much slower pace than previously anticipated.  In the absence of further hits, the Canadian and Atlantic economies are expected to revive towards the end of 2003 and into 2004.  The U.S. economy is growing rapidly as it moves into 2004, but demand from European markets will remain weak.  In Canada, a high dollar will keep exporters under pressure.

This issue of Atlantic Report provides estimated growth rates for the four Atlantic provinces, as well as an overview of the influencing factors in the global, U.S and Canadian economies.
