The seafood processing industry is an example of a highly seasonal, relatively low-wage industry that usually requires minimal education and training. A majority of operations are located in rural areas and a large proportion of workers are 55 years and above. Seafood manufacturing is the largest component of manufacturing at 21% of employment. The potential solutions for seafood manufacturing are likely to differ significantly with other segments of manufacturing.
