Atlantic Labour Market Recovery Slowing
based on Labour Force Survey, July 2020

• Today’s job report shows the economic recovery is continuing, but at a slower pace. Atlantic Canada gained 7,000 jobs in July, following the increase of 97,000 in May and June.
• There are still 67,500 (6%) fewer Atlantic Canadians working in July than in February. 
• Atlantic Canada has recovered 61% of the 171,000 jobs lost in March and April. This is a faster rebound than nationally (55% job recovery). New Brunswick leads the country on this measure, with a 75% recovery of jobs lost.
• Hours worked have also rebounded and are now down 9% year-over-year in July.  This is an improvement from April, when hours were down 20%.
• Several groups including women (especially those with children), youth and those in lower paying jobs continue to lag the recovery in employment.
