(formerly Diagnostic Chemicals Limited), a company named by Atlantic Progress as one of the Top 101 companies in Atlantic Canada and by MacLean's as one of the Top 100 employers in Canada. He is also the CEO of the Regis Duffy Bio-Science Fund, a private venture fund targeting science based businesses. Ron is a director of Maritime Electric Company Limited, a subsidiary of Fortis Inc. and a former member of the board of directors of the Bank of Canada. He is also Chairman of the board of PEI BioAlliance Inc., a company dedicated to the advancement of the bio-science sector of Prince Edward Island’s economy.
Ron is President of Communities 13 Inc., a non-profit organization which owns and operates a multipurpose recreational complex serving the needs of 12,000 residents in 13 communities. He is involved with Canada Games 2009 to take place in Prince Edward Island. Ron is a member of the advisory board for the UPEI School of Business. He is a Past-President of the United Way of Prince Edward Island.

Glenn HynesChief Financial Officer & PartnerBluewave Energy - Dartmouth, NS Glenn is Chief Financial Officer & Partner of Bluewave Energy LLP, an Atlantic Canadian based national fuel distribution business. He recently spent a decade in various executive roles at Sobeys Inc. including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Development Officer and a member of the Company’s Leadership Committee.
In addition to serving on APEC’s Board and Management Committee, Glenn is Chair of UPEI’s Finance & Audit Committee and a member of that Board’s Executive Committee. He is involved in the community and has served on the Boards of many community organizations, including the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce and the Pictou County School Enhancement Capital Campaign and is an active supporter of Pictou County Minor Hockey.
Glenn earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Prince Edward Island. Glenn is a member of the Nova Scotia Institute of Chartered Accountants and Financial Executives International.
In 2000, Glenn was named one of Canada’s ‘Top 40 Under 40.’ In October 2002, he was honoured with UPEI’s Distinguished Alumnus Award and is Life President of his University graduating class.

Elizabeth BealePresident & Chief Executive OfficerAPEC Ms. Beale has been President and CEO of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council since 1996. Prior to that, she worked for 10 years as a consulting economist, advising senior levels of government on regional planning and economic strategies for Atlantic Canada. Her policy and research interests cover a wide range of topics related to the economy of Atlantic Canada including energy, the labour market and innovation strategies. Ms. Beale has authored numerous studies on public policy topics and is a frequent media commentator.
Under Ms. Beale’s leadership, APEC has grown to become an influential voice furthering the economic development of Atlantic Canada. Ms. Beale has also participated on a number of external advisory panels including the Labour Market Information Advisory Panel which reported in June 2009 to the Forum of Labour Market Ministers and the Nova Scotia Economic Advisory Panel which reported to Premier Darryl Dexter in November 2009.
Ms. Beale resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto and an M.A. in Economics from Dalhousie University. Ms. Beale has taken an active role in a number of professional and community organizations. She is a past Governor of Dalhousie University and is currently a member of the National Statistics Council, Director of the Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development at Memorial University and Director of Three Oaks Innovation at the University of Prince Edward Island.

In addition to sitting on the APEC Board, Cathy’s portfolio includes: Immediate Past President, St. John’s Board of Trade; Chairperson, McDonald’s National Technology Forum; Director, Business Coalition of Newfoundland and Labrador; Cabinet Member, Daffodil House; and Committee Member, Labour Market Sub-Committee of the Strategic Partnership Council, Newfoundland and Labrador. Cathy also sits on the Board of Directors at Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro and is a Director with the Energy Corporation of Newfoundland & Labrador.
In 2007, Cathy was chosen to sign WHSCC’s inaugural CEO Charter for her leadership in workplace health and safety.

Steve BirdVice-President of FinanceBell Aliant Steve Bird is Vice-President of Finance at Bell Aliant. He is responsible for corporate consolidation, budgeting, financial information systems, internal financial reporting and provides business decision support to the Bell Aliant organization including investment analysis, capital management and reporting, revenue, expense and productivity management.
Since joining Bell Aliant in 1987, Steve has held a number of positions in Finance, Marketing and Sales with increasing levels of responsibility. He was promoted to the position of Director of Financial Service in 2001 and became Vice-President of Finance in 2005.
An active community member, Steve has been Chair for the Chefs for UNICEF committee for the past five years and has coached hockey in the Dartmouth Whalers organization.
A native of Nova Scotia, Steve completed his Bachelor of Commerce in 1987 at St. Mary’s University and received his Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation in 1995.
Steve enjoys staying active by going to the gym, golfing and spending time with his wife Jennifer and children Bradley, Taylor and Kaitlin.

He is a member of the Professional Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK & Europe) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He graduated from Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities with engineering degrees, and is a Professional Civil Engineer.
Alan is married to Janette, with three children - two boys and one girl.

Danny hopes to provide people with alternative choices for living and working in and around the Halifax Regional Municipality core. Wayne CrawleyPresident & CEOICD Utilities Limited In his role with energy company Emera, Wayne is responsible for business development, corporate strategy and communications. Under Wayne's leadership, Emera has grown with investments including Brunswick Pipeline, Bear Swamp Power, NRI Electric Transmission, and Bangor Hydro Electric.
In addition in chairing APEC, Wayne currently sits on the Boards of Open Hydro Corporation, ENTx Capital, Trade Centre Limited, Palooka's Gym and Nova Scotia Junior Achievement Hall of Fame. He is a past President of the PEI Building Trades Council, PEI Federation of Labour and the PEI Council of Labour. Ted attended UPEI enrolled in the Business Adminstration program. He has attended special labour studies at St. Frances Xavier University and was a member of the HRH Duke of Edinburgh Economic Study Conference at Oxford University.

Daniel HollandExecutive Vice-PresidentBeacon Securities Limited Daniel Holland moved back to his hometown of Halifax to join Beacon Securities Limited (the oldest, independent, full-service investment dealer in Atlantic Canada) in September 2006. As Executive Vice-President, he brings together his experience in a variety of roles in Canada and Europe. Specifically, he has worked in International Money Market Sales for the Bank of Montreal in London, UK and in Institutional Equity Sales for RBC Dominion Securities in London, UK covering accounts in the UK, France, Spain and Israel.
Daniel is responsible for the coordination of services offered to Beacon’s Institutional clientele who focus on Equity investments, as well as supporting the Fixed Income team on relationship management with provincial debt issuers across Canada.

He holds an MBA from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Ken is Chairperson for Special Olympics – Newfoundland Labrador, is an alumni member on the Board of Regents of Memorial University, and also is a Board member of Nalcor Energy, Canada’s 4th largest generator of electricity, and serves on the Board of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
In 2005, Ken was named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEO’s by Atlantic Business Magazine. Ken and his wife Andrea live in St. John’s with their three children, Andrew, Erin and Matt. Brian McMillanPresidentHolland College - Charlottetown, PE Brian is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Holland College in Prince Edward Island. The College offers over 65 full-time programs and is home to more than 2,500 full-time and 4,000 part-time learners. A registered psychologist with the New Brunswick College of Psychologists, Brian's research work has focused on adults with learning disabilities, enterprise education, and teacher and faculty assessments as they pertain to teaching.
Brian is a Past Chair and Honorary Life Member of Junior Achievement on the Island; a member of UPEI Board of Governors; a Director of Jr. Achievement Canada; a Director on the Board of Governors of the PEI Business Hall of Fame; a member of the PEI United Way Campaign Cabinet; and a Chair and Director of the Atlantic Provinces Community College Consortium. He is also active in his community as a youth counselor, a minor hockey and basketball coach, and an elder for his church. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Mount Allison University, as well as an M.Ed in Counseling Psychology and a PhD in School Psychology from the University of Alberta.

Ken is responsible for leading all of the company’s treasury activities including capital structure strategy, financing transactions, commercial and investment banking relationships, rating agency relationships, employee pension and investment assets and enterprise risk management. In 2009, under Ken’s leadership Emera successfully issued approximately $1 billion in debt securities.
